As per the Punjabi wedding, this practice of welcoming the groom is known by the name of “milni” this ritual is performed to let the family member of both the sides can acquaint with each other. Once the whole wedding procession which is baraat reaches the main venue, the brother of the bride welcomes the groom and brings him down of “Ghodi”, the horse on which the groom comes. Thereafter there is a small session of prayer which is called by the name of “ardaas” followed by milni.
- Gujarati wedding have “nose-worthy” welcome
In Gujarati wedding, this “welcome ritual” is known by the term “Ponkhana”. As the groom reaches, the mother of the bride receives him and performs an “Aarti”. This is followed by one amusing practice wherein the “to be the mother in law” of the groom tries to pluck his nose before entering the main venue. This practice is an absolute delight to watch where the bride’s mother and groom try their best, groom in saving his nose and mother in plucking one.
- Some more rituals in Maharashtrian wedding
As per the Maharashtrian wedding, the groom is welcomed by the bride’s parents. The ceremony of “seesam pooja” is conducted then. As per this, the groom’s legs are washed with water by the bride’s parents. Later they apply the “Tilak” on his forehead which is followed by aarti. The groom is made to sit on a stool which is known as “chaurang”. After this, the bride’s parents and close family shower him with some great gifts.
